How time flies when you are working. I have been working every day for the last two weeks at Haribo... non stop! There was snow on the ground all week... Until Yesterday.
We had Christmas Eve Off along with Christmas Day.( today).... And that extended through Friday and Saturday. ( We work again on Sunday.) However. Having nothing and no one to spend the holiday with, I volunteered to work on Friday Tomorrow) as Haribo performs its "end of year inventory." They will need a Driver to move things around while the folks count up and catalog the items on the floor. Should be an easy 4 hours.
That being said, It has been a while since I have had a day off to myself. And that means that there has been much that has gone "Unattended." Manly the house cleaning... some laundry and dishes. and some simple kitchen cleaning. All of witch I was able to catch up on on Wednesday! ( It really did not take as long as I thought... Even the mopping of the floor!) But it still means that I just lack the time to decompress. All while wanting to go out and celebrate the holidays a little.
Having no one to celebrate with means that you are forced to celebrate with your "second line" of people. Friends, mostly. ( Instead of family...) So I have been trying to discover those people who will tolerate my presents during this season of joy and sharing.
And I have found at least a couple.
One of those "people"... Is the Cat.
The Cat. Did I mention the cat before? She has been living with me for several months now! And 99% of that time, she has spent it under the couch. I think I have seen her a grand total of 12 times during that time.
But lately, I have been flipping the sofa up and wrestling her out from under it. Forcing my affections upon her. And finally.... she has almost reciprocated.
I woke up this morning and she was laying on top of the couch. instead of darting for cover... this time she actually came up to engage in pets. And then climbed upon my shoulders and walked around with me while I made my morning coffee! I have not had a cat do something like this since Red. Perhaps this cat will end up being a sidekick cat instead of a Ghost cat. ( her current label) In fact, I was going to change her name from "Moo Moo" to "Shadow" simply because she is so difficult to see in the dark and under the sofa. ( Also because she is a black cat...)
I have discovered that she enjoys the Friskas treats and watching Cat videos on You Tube. I even got her to play a little bit with some fishing line an show string. Perhaps we can be friends after all. It certainly beats hanging out alone for several days here in this house. I'm beginning to think that she does not hate me after all....
The second person... Is Christina.
Ah Christina. Alone again on Christmas... Due to work and a pause in the dating life. We decided to be alone together ... again.... For Christmas. You would think that this is becoming a pattern or something. But who knows what this is or how to explain it. All I know is that it beats hanging out at home...With a ghost cat that hides under the sofa most of the time.
We initially were going to make pizza... like last year. But Christina is "Gluten Free" So that means the Pizza will taste like cardboard instead of traditional Italian food commandeered by America. However.. this year, by pure accident, we ended up making nachos!
The ingredients were nearly identical... except that there are corn ships instead of the usual flour bread crust that goes under a pizza. Christina can enjoy the same food as me.. AND best of all... It does not taste like Spackle!
We also had some Christmas Movies playing in the background. Gremlins and the Goonies. ( I have never seen the goonies before.) The problem is that while we were talking and cooking, that means we did not actually watch much of the movie. But there where a few moments we were able to tune in. Normally, I would watch the Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation. But, a new tradition is sometimes a welcome thing to embrace.
In the mean time... I will try to keep a positive attitude, a grateful heart, and try to make very second count.
